WATERLOO — Aelred A “Ade” Pfefferkorn, 94, of Waterloo passed away Tuesday February 14, 2017 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla. He was born July 9, 1922 in Ashley to Andrew and Louise (Vanderbosch) Pfefferkorn. He was an Ashley High School graduate and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. Ade delivered milk for the Waterloo Dairy and was head custodian at the Waterloo High School then held the same position at the DeKalb Middle School when the DeKalb Central school system was formed. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Waterloo and was a 32-year member of the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief for more than half those years. He was also a member of the former Waterloo VFW, Kendallville VFW and the Auburn American Legion where he served in several of the offices of those clubs especially the Waterloo VFW. Ade married Myra M. Horstman on April 12, 1947, in Cloverdale Ohio, and she survives in Waterloo. Also surviving are 10 children and their spouses, Marlene (Rodney) Taylor of Monroe, North Carolina, Sandra (Tom) Mettert of Angola, June (Roderick) Pressler of Waterloo, Jane SanAngelo of Clearwater, Florida, Dean (Karen) Pfefferkorn of Auburn, Edward (Kim) Pfefferkorn of Auburn, James (Jackie) Pfefferkorn of Auburn, Laura Mann of Montpelier, Ohio, Sarah (Jay) Seifert of Auburn and Bradley (Michele) Pfefferkorn of Auburn; 19 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother, Mildred Miller of Avilla, Leo (Sally) Pfefferkorn of Albion and Suzy Lambright of Ligonier. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Michelle Pfefferkorn; a sister Estella Royal; and four brothers, Carl, Ralph, Norbert and Andrew Pfefferkorn. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at St. Michael's the Archangel Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father David Carkenord officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo. Calling is Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street, Waterloo and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. A Rosary will be recited at 5:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
