FREMONT — Alvin H. Smith, 78, of Fremont, passed to his eternal home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne. Mr. Smith was a Marine Corps veteran who spent his career working at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station in Havelock, North Carolina following his honorable discharge. After raising his family on the Neuse River, he spent his retirement at his home at Jimmerson Lake, where he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and neighbors. He was born December, 4, 1938, to Ora Dale Smith Sr. and Gertrude Smith, who preceded him home. He is survived by one son, Timothy (Lisa) Smith of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Rebecca (Tom) Coath of Elwood, Karin Smith of Greenville, North Carolina, and Jennifer Callan of Bowling Green, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Tara Jennings of Greenville, North Carolina; grandchildren Amanda Smith, Christopher Coath, William McKenzie and Jeffrey Jennings; sisters Barbara Hirshey and Doris Ann (Linville) Ritchie; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Little, and his brother, Ora Dale Smith, Jr. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday May 20, 2017 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street, Waterloo, Pastor Russ Hepler officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Corunna. Calling is Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service Saturday, from 10-11 a.m., all at the funeral home.
