Garrett – Charlene F. “Charlie” Liparula, 62, of Garrett died Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. She was born June 26, 1954, in Columbus, Ohio to Mark H. and Dorothy J. (Batson) Price, and they preceded her in death. Charlie was a graduate of Johnstown High School, Johnstown, Ohio. Charlie married James E. Liparula on May 19, 1995, in Coshocton, Ohio, and he survives in Garrett. She worked for the Garrett School District in the food service department for six years, retiring in 2011. Charlie was a member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett. She was also a member and served as an officer in the following organizations, Garrett American Legion Post 178, Garrett VFW Post 1892, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 43. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 1357, The Queen of Red Hat Society – Judy Jewels for 11 years, American Legion Riders Squadron 97 and Howard County Vietnam Veterans Association. She was very involved with the Veteran Associations and helping veterans have a better way of life. She loved her Red Hat Group and enjoyed all their activities. Charlie was known in the community as always willing to help someone in need. She loved to cook and was extremely proud of her two children and four grandchildren. Also surviving are a son, Michael D. Burger of Garrett; a daughter and son-in-law, Stefanie R. and Leon Hicks of Garrett; four grandchildren, Laylah M. Hicks, Lillee F. Hicks, Liam M.H. Hicks, and MaKenssey N. Hicks; a brother, Mark H. Price Jr. of Texas; and three sisters, Vickie J. Dillion of Johnstown, Ohio, Jennifer L. and Jim Johannes of Columbus, Ohio, and Cindy L. and Jay McAlpine of Newark, Ohio. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Church of Christ, 213 E. King St., Garrett, with Brother Bud Owen officiating. Burial will take place in Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett. Visitation will be from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at the church.
