Charles "Chuck" Lewis
December 19, 1923 ~ March 30, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years OldCharles “Chuck” Lewis, age 93, of Garrett passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Maineville, Ohio.
He was born on December 19, 1923 in Garrett to Charles and Ethel (Dinger) Lewis.
Mr. Lewis honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard.
He married Betty “Tommy Lou” Lewis on December 25, 1947 in Auburn. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2016.
Mr. Lewis worked as an electrician for International Harvester in Fort Wayne for 38 years retiring in 1982.
He was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett. He was active in the church as a youth group leader. He was also active in Girl Scout’s leadership with his wife and he and Tommy Lou were avid snow skiers. Together, they led an Indian dance troop for 5 years performing all over the country at many different venues. He was also a member of the Garrett American Legion Post 178 and he volunteered much of his time working at the Garrett Recycling Center.
Survivors include:
Daughter; Cindy Lou Lewis of Maineville, Ohio.
3 grandchildren; Jenny Lou Lamb, Brian and Stephanie Bailey and David and Chrissy Bailey.
8 great grandchildren; Samantha Bailey, Caleb Lamb, Miranda Lou Bailey, Charles Bailey, Noah Bailey, Austin Lamb, Cody Bailey and Taylor Bailey.
Sister; Carolyn McClure of Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Tommy Lou, brother; Nolan Lewis and 2 sisters; Wand Smeed and Marvene Murley.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 2:30 PM at the First Church of Christ, 213 East King Street in Garrett.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at the First Church of Christ in Garrett.
Entombment will be in the Auburn Mausoleum.
Officiating the funeral service will be Brother Bud Owen and Jerry Weller with the First Church of Christ.
Memorials may be directed to the First Church of Christ.
