Clifford C. “Hoggie” Maggert, 78, of Garrett passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

He was born Nov. 28, 1937, in Garrett to Forrest and Francis (Reed) Maggert, and they preceded him in death.

Hoggie married Helen Kay Koble on July 2, 1961, in Garrett, and she passed away Aug. 17, 1970.

He started working for Garrett Flexible and later retired from Electric Motors in Garrett.

Hoggie was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Garrett. He enjoyed fishing, playing various card games with his brothers, Atlanta Braves Baseball, Dallas Cowboy Football, and was a golden glove boxer in his youth.

Surviving are a daughter, Tammy L. (Kevin) Althouse of Auburn; a son, Thomas J. (Judy L. Garrett) of Garrett; four grandchildren, Quinton Althouse, Cole Althouse, Joseph (Rachel) Maggert, and Kayleigh (Eric) Riefers; a great-grandson, Brice; five sisters, Eleanor “Doodie” Perucca of Garrett, Caroline Creager of Garrett, Juanita Kline of Garrett, Mary Higgins of Garrett, and Wava Woolard of Alaska; four brothers, Richard “Sam” Maggert of Garrett, Clayton Maggert of Garrett, William “Bill” Maggert of Garrett, and Ralph Maggert of Garrett; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, Melvin “Jake” Maggert.  

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn. Private family burial will take place in Christian Union Cemetery in rural Garrett.

Memorials may be directed to Fraternal Order of Eagles in Garrett to be used for the Garrett Boys and Girls Little League Programs or you may donate to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
