Donald Lee Brines, 84, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at DeKalb Health in Auburn, Indiana.

Don was born July 5, 1932, in Keensburg, Illinois, to Nile and Elfreida (McKibben) Brines where he grew up attending the Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. Don also played college basketball while attending Indiana State.

He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during the Korean Conflict.

Don married Jacqueline S. Wheeler on June 1, 1957, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, and she survives in Auburn, Indiana.

He worked as a salesman for Marathon Oil Company, retiring after 30 years of service. He then went to work for Laketon Refining Corporation for 30 years, retiring December 31, 2015.

Don was a member of the American Legion of Mount Carmel, Illinois; Elks Lodge 1978 of Auburn, Indiana; and a lifetime member of the Mount Carmel High School Alumni Foundation.

Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy L. and Gary Boyd of Auburn, Indiana; a granddaughter, Leah Ziebell; a brother and sister-in-law, Mark C. and Toni Brines of Mount Carmel, Illinois; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley A. and Shannon Garrett of Evansville, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Nile Eugene Brines.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2017, at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry St., Mount Carmel, IL 62863, with calling from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Allan Wright will be officiating. Burial will take place in Highland Cemetery in Mount Carmel, Illinois.

Calling will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, Indiana.
