Edward F. “Ted” Hemingway III, 67, of Auburn passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

He was born Nov. 26, 1949, in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Edward F. Hemingway Jr. and Barbara (Curley) Hemingway.

Ted graduated from Pilgrim High School in Warwick, Rhode Island. After graduating from high school, Ted served three tours in Vietnam with the United States Navy. Once returning from the military, he went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife and conservation management from the University of Rhode Island.

He worked a short time for Heath Consultants and eventually transferred to Northeast Indiana. Ted retired after more than 20 years from Northern Indiana Fuel & Light as vice president of sales and marketing.

Once retired, he enjoyed traveling with family, outdoor activities and volunteering his time alongside his wife, Tedra, at Audio Reading Service through the Allen County Public Library, Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site and ACRES in Huntertown.

Ted was a fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and American history. He was a true blue Democrat through and through and loved science, nature and being a lifelong learner.

He married Tedra Simanton on June 22, 1985, in Auburn, and she survives.

Also surviving are two children, Adrianne Wilson Pontius (Chris Robison) of Fort Wayne, and Alex Hemingway of Columbus; a granddaughter, Jaelyn Pontius; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick and Evelyn Simanton of Auburn; a brother-in-law and his wife, Eric and Sue Simanton of LaGrange; a nephew, James Simanton of LaGrange; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Carol Hemingway.

A Celebration of Ted’s life will take place at 4 p.m. May 20, 2017, at Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site, 1205 Pleasant Point, Rome City, IN 46784.
