James Whittington Obituary

AUBURN — James R. Whittington, 90, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Smith Farms Manor in Auburn. He was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Auburn to Roy and Lydia (Hippenhammer) Whittington. He married Charlotte M. LaRowe on March 24, 1945, in Garrett, and she survives in Auburn. Mr. Whittington worked as a machine operator for 40 years at Warner Gear in Auburn, retiring in 1990. He also worked at the Kruse Auction Park for 12 years. He was a member of the DeKalb County Fair Association and the DeKalb County Horsemen’s Association. He was also a member of the team that drove the horse-drawn carriage for various weddings and funerals. Also surviving are four children, Beth and Gene Gross of Auburn, Brenda (Tony) Darling of Fort Wayne, Bernard Whittington of Fort Wayne and Brad (Kari) Whittington of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Rolland Whittington, Paul Whittington and Harold Whittington; and a sister, Effie Whittington. Visitation will be Monday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn. A private family graveside service will follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery in rural Auburn Memorials are to DeKalb County Horseman’s Association or Heartland Hospice.
