Janice E. "Jan" Roberts Mears, 76, of Auburn passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, in Fort Wayne at Parkview Randallia Hospital.

She was born July 16, 1940, in Plainfield, New Jersey to Raymond and Evelyn Roberts.

On January 1, 1961, she married Howard "Bud" Mears, sharing 23 years together.

Jan lived in Seymour from 1963-1985. She then moved to the Fort Wayne area until her passing.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; a brother, Clinton "Butch" Roberts; and a sister, Norma Tomlinson.

She is survived by: four children, Cindy (Drew) Noye, Sharon Townsend, Gary (Loli) Mears, and Kathy (Dwayne) Hohenstreiter; 11 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Jan worked at DeKalb Hospital as a pharmacy technician and enjoyed her co-workers and all her customers whether regulars or just one time visitors. She was well-liked by all who met her. Jan especially loved attending her grandchildren's events. She rarely missed a ballgame and always came dressed in spirit wear.

Jan loved playing bridge and enjoyed socializing with her lady card friends. She loved her two dogs, Maggie and Molly, often taking them on several walks a day all snazzy in their matching dog coats. She was always well prepared with a pocket of dog treats to reward them for good behavior. They definitely helped keep her company!

A celebration of Jan's life will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017, at New Hope Christian Center, 900 S. Wayne St., Waterloo. The Rev. Ralph Diehl will be officiating. Afterwards, everyone is invited to stay for light refreshments.

Burial will take place at a later date in Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society for the local Relay for Life fund.
