AUBURN — Joan Smith, age 83, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, in Auburn, Indiana. Mrs. Smith was born on October 19, 1934, in Sturgis, Michigan, to Neil and Marjorie West. She lived most of her life in LaGrange County, moving to Auburn 11 years ago. On September 11, 1954, in Sturgis, Michigan, she married Don W. Smith. They spent over 62 years together and raised four children. Mr. Smith survives in Auburn. She retired from the LaGrange County Library in 2007. She was an avid reader, and loved to sew, bake, paint and play euchre. She was member of the Red Hats Club. Also surviving are four daughters, LeeAnn Pearce of Winamac, Indiana, Terry (Randy) VanWagner of LaGrange, Indiana, Tracy (Russ) Warner of Auburn, Indiana, and Kelly (Joe) Mattes of Auburn, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Stacey VanWagner, Michael (Jodi) Pearce, Melody Fisher, Stefanie (Ryan) Ramsey, Megan Leazenby, Bonnie (Bryan) Wellman and Holly Warner; and two great-grandsons, Aiden and Cooper Ramsey. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and LeRoy Raines; and a son-in-law, Harry Pearce. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by family and friends. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, Indiana, with Rev. David Lawrence officiating. Burial will take place in East Springfield Cemetery in LaGrange County, Indiana. Calling is Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in Joan’s name to Heartland Hospice.
