Lowell King, 88 of Auburn went home to join the lord and his beloved wife Hazel, on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Dekalb Hospital, while surrounded by his family. He was born February 15, 1929 to Carl A. and Lottie (Bud) King. He married Hazel W Harper (Schneider) on February 12, 1977 in Albion. Together they met at a square dance, and the rest is history. During his early life, he was a U.S. Army and Navy Veteran for WWII, as well as the Korean War. After leaving the military, he worked for Dana Corporation where he spent 33 years before retiring in 1993. In his later years, he was a member of the Garrett American Legion, Kendallville Eagles and the VFW. Lowell enjoyed fishing, fish frys, vacationing in Florida with his wife, square dancing, singing, spending time with his family, bird watching, painting and especially carving wood. He was also an avid story teller and could always make you smile with his silly sense of humor. He is survived by his 5 sons and 4 daughters, Dan (Deb) Harper of Albion, Johnny Harper (Sandi Roebel) of LaOtto, Michael Harper (Lori Phipps) of Huntertown, Wanetta (Scott) Patell of Fort Wayne, Sherry Johnson of Churubusco, Kelly (Butch) Poynter of Corunna, Kris Taylor of Garrett, Michael (Patsy) King of Lafayette, David King of Fort Wayne and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Brothers and sisters Harold (Delores) King of Fort Wayne, Edith Maddex of Leo, Ardith Keister of Rome City, Nancy Blaski of Wolcottville, Dianne “Angel” Matthews of Fort Wayne and Irene Roy He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lottie, wife, Hazel, 2 grandsons, Daniel Ray Harper Jr. and Markus Daniel Johnson, 3 brothers Eldon King, Dallas King, and Glenn King, 3 sisters Hilda Lensky, Devota Bolen, and Delores Rusk Graveside service will be 1 PM, Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn with Rev Sam Weimer officiating. Military Funeral Honors will be conducted by the Garrett American Legion and the U.S. Navy Honor Detail. Calling is 2 to 8 PM Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, IN. Preferred memorials are to the Wounded Warrior Project.
