Marvin W. Houser, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at his home in rural Auburn surrounded by his family.
He was born in Garrett on July 20, 1938, the son of the late Wilson W. and Dora A. (Surfus) Houser.
Marvin was a 1956 graduate of Garrett High School and was also a veteran of the United States Army.
He married Deloris N. Smith on March 2, 1957, in Phoenix, Arizona.
Marvin enjoyed his time as a test mechanic for Navistar International, formerly International Harvester, for 42 years, before retiring in June of 2001.
Marvin loved the Lord and lived out his faith daily. He attended County Line Church of God in rural Auburn.
He loved camping, fishing, lending a helping hand to anyone in need, teasing and joking with others, working outdoors on any project that needed done and just spending time with family and friends at the lake, where you might find him offering a dish of homemade ice cream.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Deloris N. (Smith) Houser of Auburn; three children and their spouses, Sherrill L. and William Miles of Auburn, David W. and Kristin Houser of Auburn and Jeff A. and Amy Houser of Kendallville; six grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda Houser, Nathan and Bethany Houser, Rachel and Adam Carlock, Michael Miles, Sarah Houser and Beth Houser; one great-grandchild, Harrison Houser; a sister, Janice E. Leas of Auburn; and a brother and sister-in-law, John E. and Vicky Houser of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant daughter, Sharon K. Houser.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with visitation from 1–2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. The Rev. Bill Lyne will be officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 4–7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Parkview Noble Hospice, Child Evangelism Fellowship and Youth for Christ are preferred.
