Maxine E. (Garwood) Carper
June 13, 1921 ~ January 12, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years OldMaxine E. Carper, 95, of Auburn, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, at The Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler.
She was born June 13, 1921, in Clark County, Illinois, to Walter and Ruth (Willfond) Garwood.
Maxine married Howard F. Carper on May 1, 1943, in Gary, and he passed away July 17, 2008.
Mrs. Carper worked for the Little Brown House, Spiegel’s Catalog Store, JCPenney’s, and the Boston Store, all in Auburn, and then retired in 1984 after working 13 years as a receptionist for Dr. Coleman in Waterloo.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Auburn.
Surviving are three sons, Paul A. of Palm Desert, California, Keith L. Carper of Auburn and Larry D. Carper of Auburn; five grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Donna Carper, Shelley and Ozzie Oswald, Jodi and Jennifer Lewis, Jennifer and Christian Griffith and Tanya and Michael Belna; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Carper; and two brothers, Leon Garwood and Ray Garwood.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn. Pastor Thomas Cupka will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
Calling will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
