Nadine L. Schmidt, age 89, of Auburn peacefully passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Betz Nursing Home.

Mrs. Schmidt was born on September 22, 1927 in Woodburn, Indiana to Conrad and Minnie (Beckman) Roemer.  Nadine graduated from Woodburn High School in 1945, serving as senior class president and being named Salutatorian of her class.  After high school she enjoyed a successful career as an executive secretary at International Harvester in Fort Wayne from 1945 to 1982.  She then worked at Hypoex Corporation from 1983 to 1990.  Upon moving to Auburn in 1989 she worked at Ambassador Steel from 1990 to 2010, finally retiring at age 82.

Nadine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn and former member of the Fort Wayne Business and Professional Women’s Club.  She had a strong abiding faith in God and readily displayed her positive attitude, warm smile, love, goodness and laughter with family and friends.  Her greatest joy was spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially at Lake Gage.  Nadine also was a 55 year breast cancer survivor and inspiration to many.  She was known as a long-suffering Chicago Cubs fan, and finally caught a glimpse of heaven last October with the Cubs World Series Championship!  The family wishes to extend special gratitude to the staff at Betz Nursing Home for the 6 ½ years of loving care to our dear mother and grandmother, and also to the DeKalb Health Hospice Care.

Survivors include:

Son and daughter-in-law; Daniel and Rebecca Schmidt of Auburn.

Granddaughter; Sarah Baker of Auburn.
