Neil A. Ramey, 80, of Waterloo passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at DeKalb Health in Auburn.

He was born April 14, 1936, in South Bend to Jennings D. and Jeanette C. (Rudig) Ramey.

Neil graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend. He then graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Agriculture.

Neil married Shirley May Washburn on June 1, 1958, in Remington, and she passed away July 8, 2013.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the United States 2nd Army Drum and Bagpipe Corps.

After returning from the service, Neil worked in the agriculture industry for his entire life, farming in DeKalb County and driving a school bus for the DeKalb Central school district.

Neil was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Auburn. He also served as an elder and formerly served on the church board. He was also a 4-H leader and was very instrumental in Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Indiana where he formerly served on the board of directors and volunteered countless hours.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Heidi Ramey of Bourbon; a daughter, Heather Lea Maze of Port Deposit, Maryland; a foster daughter, Julia Gorrell of Owensville; four grandchildren, Cara (Brent) Breece, Calla Ramey, Ben Cross and Andrew Cross; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Aiden Breece and Madison Cross; three step-great-grandchildren, Ethan Breece, BreAnna Vermillion and Alexis Kerr; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda and Robert Ditsler of South Bend, and Kathleen Ramey of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 910 N. Indiana Ave., Auburn, with Pastor Tom Cupka officiating and military honors provided by the United States Army.

Calling is 2–4 and 6–8 p.m. Friday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Auburn or Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Indiana.
