Auburn – Richard D Penland, 84 Passed away Thursday January 5, 2017 at his home in Auburn.

He was born October 2, 1932 in Pleasant Lake to Roscoe and Erma (Rohm) Penland.

Dick served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War; he retired from the Auburn Post Office after 36 years. He also retired as an Insurance Agent for DeKalb Farm Mutual in Auburn with 21 years of service.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He belonged to the Auburn American Legion Post 97 and was a part time farmer for 20 years.

Dick married Ann Catherine Ellert on October 18, 1952 in St. Michaels Catholic Church in Waterloo and she survives in Auburn. Also surviving are 4 sons Michael Penland and his wife Sabine’ of Auburn, Jeffery Penland and his wife Jeanne of Waterloo, Eric Penland and his wife Cindy of New Albany and Barry Penland and his wife Misheila of Auburn; a daughter in law, Deb Penland of Auburn; 11 grandchildren, Spencer Penland, Stacy (Nate) Tatman, Jessica Penland, Jami (Jeff) Hicov, Kristy (Adam) Dibble, Craig (Cassie Yarian) Penland, Zachary Penland, Kevin (Ellie) Penland, Jason Penland, Al Wilson, Bruce Wilson and 8 great grandchildren; a brother Lynn R Penland of Sheridan Wyoming and a sister June Hauer of Angola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dennis Penland and a granddaughter Kasey Penland.

A mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 AM Tuesday January 10, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn with Father Dave Carkenord officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Catholic Cemetery.

Calling is Monday from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 PM at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn and also 1 hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30. A rosary will be recited at 1:45 Monday 15 min. prior to the visitation.

Preferred memorials are to Women's Care Center-Northeast IN 918 W. Seventh St., Auburn.
