AUBURN — Ruth E. Farrington, 89, of Auburn died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Wesley Health Care in Auburn.
She was born Oct. 31, 1921, in DeKalb County, to the late Paul and Willo (Hinman) Whetsel.
Ruth had a varied background in business. She was a legal secretary, medical office Manager and co-owned Farrington Real Estate in Waterloo for 20 years.

In 1991, they merged with Classic City Reality. She worked through the years with a number of great people and real estate offices until her retirement just a few years ago with Mike Thomas Reality.
She was associated with Maple Grove Methodist Church and Auburn First United Methodist.

She was a charter member of Richland Township Home Demonstration Club, a member of the Northeast Indiana Real Estate Association and was a former member of the Eastern Star. She was an avid musician and enjoyed studying and playing the piano and violin.

She and her husband Charles were very civic minded and were always involved in many different community activities and organizations over the years.
She married Charles Farrington on Sept. 25, 1941, in the Waterloo United Methodist Church. He passed away April 27, 1992.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Larry Rothenhofer of Fort Wayne, Louise and Gary Rockey of Boerne, Texas, and Julie and Randy Ramsey of Auburn; three sons and a daughter-in-law, John Farrington of Auburn, Jim and Camille Farrington of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Rex Farrington of Auburn; six grandchildren and their spouses, Laura and Steve Warner, Josh and Brooke Farrington, Jay Farrington, Ryan and Stephanie Ramsey, Rachel Ramsey, and Myah Farrington; one step-granddaughter and her spouse, Jill and Kevin Sherlock; five great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son; a granddaughter, Betsy Opper; a stepgrandson, Doug Rothenhofer; and a sister, Barbara Leach.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., Auburn, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be in Waterloo Cemetery.
Calling will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Serenity House, DeKalb County Humane Shelter, or the DeKalb High School Show Choir.
