Auburn – Samuel F Hippensteel Sr., 62, of Auburn, died Sunday March 11, 2018 at Heritage Pointe in Fort Wayne. He was born December 31, 1955 in Auburn to Dr. Harland V Hippensteel II and Rosemary (Knull) Hippensteel. Sam worked as a Mechanic for 47 years. First working at Manon – Hollis Garage, Auburn Motor Sales, McMahon Tire and the South Main Marathon Stations (known to a lot of people as South Side Sammy’s) all in Auburn. He also did a lot of work as an Independent Mechanic. He was a member of the Auburn First United Methodist Church in Auburn and the Auburn Conservation Club. His hobbies were flying Navel Trainer Gliders, rebuilding Ford Trucks, farm tractors and about anything with an engine someone would ask him to look at. He enjoyed the summers, spending weekends at his lake cottage on Golden Lake. Surviving is a son, Samuel F Hippensteel Jr and his wife Angie of Garrett and a daughter, Elise Hippensteel of Garrett; a grandson, Ari Samuel Hippensteel, 3 step grandchildren, Payton Hickman, Adalyn Hickman and Bryson Hickman; a sister and 4 brothers, Carrie Ellen Hefty of Auburn, Timothy (Donita) Hippensteel of St. Louis, MO, Harland V. Hippensteel III of Garrett, Daniel (Lisa) Hippensteel of Fort Wayne and Jeffery Hippensteel of Auburn and his grand dog “Stetson”. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law James Hefty. Services will be 11 AM Thursday March 15, 2018 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, IN with Rev. Grant Merrill officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery, Auburn. Calling is Wednesday from 2 to 7 and also 1 hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
