Rickey Parker, 69 years, 7 months and 1 day, passed away April 8, 2024. He was born on September 7, 1954 in Garrett Indiana, son of Clifford Parker and Beverly (Swander) Parker who preceded him in death. He will be remembered for his zest for life.
Rick is survived by his 3 daughters, Tara Parker, Mandie Taylor and Nikole Parker; 4 granddaughters, Teresa, Jordan, Aja and Jolee and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Barry Parker (Barb) and Neal Parker. As well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Rick graduated from Garrett High School in 1972, then joined thew Army in 1975. He was a proud retired veteran of the United States Army. He served 20 years, but he would tell me to specify it was 20 years and 18 days as a tanker. He loved his time in the military and all the people he met throughout his career. Many of which he was still friends with 30+ years later. He also really enjoyed the nine years stationed in Germany because according to him they had a great selection of beer and the Octoberfest.
After his military career, he became a truck driver for a while. Then he used his GI Bill to further his education at Ivy Tech Community College where he got his Culinary Arts Degree with a baking specialty, since he enjoyed cooking. He then did several years in a bakery putting his degree to use.
He liked to live life his way and that included his great love of beer. He would joke by patting his stomach and saying his keg was bought and paid for. He loved to have fun which is why he didn't want a funeral. Instead at the farm he shared with friends, there will be a Celebration of Life on May 18, 2024 from 12 to 4 PM at 6309 CR 29, Auburn, Indiana.
