Roy "Peck" Hampshire

Roy "Peck" Hampshire, 95, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at Lincolnshire Place, Ft. Wayne, IN .

He was born June 6, 1928 to Roy and Ruth (Nichols) Hampshire.  Roy graduated from Auburn High School in 1946.  From there he worked for M&M Service until he entered the Army in November 1950. 

Roy served overseas in Korea for 18 months. He served as a stock clerk stationed in Inchon at the rank of Sergeant. After being released from the service in October 1952 he returned to Auburn.

After returning, he went to Journeymen Barber School in Indianapolis, IN.  Upon graduating he barbered with Weir Ferris in a shop on Ensley Ave. until 1967 when he opened Hampshire Barber Shop in Auburn at the corner of 7th and Cedar.  He retired and sold his business in 2007.  As a barber, he would cut hair at the jail, in the homes of his invalid customers, and at the local nursing homes.

Roy was a member of First Christian Church for many years, some of which he served as a Deacon and church board member.

Roy married Patricia L. Bishop of Hamler, Ohio on November 14, 1953 at the Ft. Wayne Methodist Church.  She proceeded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Steven Hampshire of Auburn, a daughter, Kay-Hampshire Lucas and her husband Michael of Rowlett, Texas; two grandchildren, Dustin Hampshire, Logansport, Jill Hampshire-Penman and her husband, Andy, of Zionsville, 4 great grandchildren, Charlie and Josey Penman of Zionsville, and Avi and Maddie Hampshire of Logansport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Phyllis Dame, and his brother Harold. 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Feller Funeral Home, 1860 Center St, Auburn, IN, with the Rev. Dr. Craig officiating.

Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
