AUBURN — Betty Jean Hartranft, 92, of Auburn died Sunday September 24, 2017, at DeKalb Health in Auburn. She lived most of her life in DeKalb County. She attended Auburn High School with the class of 1943. She enjoyed roller skating, camping, fishing, traveling, her family and friends. She worked in the office at the County Line Cheese Company for 26 years and retired in 1983. After retirement, she and her husband Charles wintered in Florida for nine years. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Auburn for over 60 years. She was born November 14, 1924, to John and Lila (Wolfe) Wirts, who have both preceded her in death. She married Charles Hartranft on February 4, 1944 in Angola and he passed away May 21, 2003. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Sharon Sue, and a son-in-law, Bill James, two sisters-in-laws, Joyce Wirts and Betty Wirts, two grandsons, Steve Schannen and Jim Leonard, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edward and Mae Hartranft. Surviving are three children, Cheryl James of Auburn, Terry Hartranft of Auburn and Lyle (Denise) Hartranft of Corunna; seven grandchildren, Scott Greenwood, Stacy Schannen-Gibson, Aaron Hartranft, Jeremy Hartranft, Brad Hartranft, Kelley Hartranft and Kayleen Leonard; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gale Wirts of Auburn and Harold Wirts of Crawfordsville, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 3 PM in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1020 Ensley Ave., Auburn with gathering of family and friends 1 hour prior to the service at Kingdom Hall. Calling is also Thursday, September 28, 2017, from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, with private family burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
