Carol Sigler Obituary

Carol Jean Sigler, age 75, of Auburn passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at DuPont Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was born in Kendallville on March 24, 1943 to Harley and Geneva (McDougall) Sigler. She moved to the Auburn area when she was 6 so she could start her education in a one room school house in Butler Township. She graduated from Garrett High School and then pursued a business and accounting degree.

Carol was very active at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Auburn serving on the Christian Education Committee, as well as, being a Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher for more than 50 years. She volunteered at the DeKalb County Humane Society, RSVP, and Reading Recovery at McKenney Harrison. Carol was a member of DeKalb County Genealogical Society and the DeKalb County Democrats.

She babysat for friends in the community for many years. Carol was like a second mother/grandmother to all of her nieces and nephews always giving them preferential treatment. She enjoyed, crafting, boating and reading but most of all she enjoyed talking with people.

Survivors Include:

Sister; Joyce Brooks of Quincy, Michigan.

Sister and brother-in-law; Connie and Don Myers of Auburn.

Brother; Jerry Sigler of Auburn.

Sister and brother-in-law; Janice and Barry Tilghman of Auburn.

Nieces, nephews and their spouses; Theresa and Heath Gillette, Toni and Kyle Crawford, Christie Greathouse, Derrick and Katie Myers and Brad Tilghman.

Great-nephews; Sebastian and Steel Gillette, Sawyer Greathouse and a great-niece Claire Greathouse.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law; Shelby Brooks and a nephew-in-law; Ryan Greathouse.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 on Friday.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 211 West Ninth Street in Auburn with pastors Rev. Dr. Marcus Carlson and Rev. Dan Bellinger officiating.

Burial will take place at the Woodruff Cemetery in Wolcottville.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or the Auburn Community Band.
