Garrett - Charles D Davis, 89 died Monday December 24, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Garrett. He was born October 18, 1929 in Garrett to Fredrick and Mary (Messner) Davis. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Charles worked at the Garrett Post Office for many years as a mail carrier and in the office including Postmaster for a number of years before retiring in 1984. He served as Mayor of Garrett from 1988 to 1992. He was a member of the Garrett Presbyterian Church, the Gideon’s, Garrett Jaycees and a lifelong member of the Garrett American Legion. He was very Civic minded and while in the Jaycees he was instrumental in starting the Fourth of July Fireworks display. He also played a large role in starting the Garrett Hospital. Charles married Therese Tiedtke on October 15, 1953 in Schwetasch, Germany and she passed away January 2, 2014. Surviving are 3 children, Daniel F (Susan) Davis of Garrett, Chris (Laura) Davis of Garrett and Loretta (Tim) Cwalinski of Gaylord, MI; 5 grandchildren, Cristy Greene, Brian (Amber) Davis, Lisa (Ron) Hickman, Emily Davis, Montana Davis and 12 great grandchildren; a sister Inez (Dominick) Manfroni of Willoby, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:30 PM Saturday January 19, 2019 at the Garrett Presbyterian Church, 201 South Franklin Street, Garrett IN. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 at the church.
