ANGOLA — Dale Martin “Captain Jack” Kirkendall, 66, of Angola, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2017, at his residence. He was born March 9, 1951, in Athens, Ohio, to Dale Herschel and Lena Mae Kirkendall (Martin).

Martin graduated from Athens High School in 1969. He attended Ohio University. He devoted the bulk of his working life to the telecom and IT industries in the greater Midwest region. There was seldom a technical problem Martin could not solve. He was most recently employed by Duke Imports, Inc., where he worked for 11 years until his death. Outside of work, Martin’s passions were golf, road trips, Ohio football, a good seafood platter at the Black Pearl, and sailing his boat on Lake Erie. However, Martin’s truest passion was his family and friends. There was never a dull moment with Captain Jack! He will be deeply missed by those who were privileged to know him, especially his sisters, nieces, and nephews, who knew him not just as a brother or uncle, but as a friend.

Martin is survived by his mother, Lena Hayes of Findlay, Ohio; daughter Tracy (Kirkendall) Lukanski; sisters Cheryl (Bernie) Gillespie of Marion, Ohio, and Debora (Joseph) Cassady of Marysville, California; nephews Ethan Gillespie, Madison Gillespie, Alex Cassady, Benjamin Cassady, Kaniel Cassady, Grant Cassady and Morgan Cassady; nieces Jennifer (Gillespie) Glowacki and Jerilyn Cassady; and three great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Hershel Kirkendall, and his beloved dog, Callie.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Feller & Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, Indiana. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., and the celebration of life at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made online to the Wounded Warriors Project, in memory of Martin.
