David R. Markey, age 66, of Albion passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn. 

He was born on February 19, 1951 in Fort Wayne to Robert and Bertha (Beckstedt) Markey.  He was a 1969 graduate of Southside High School in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Markey worked for Zumbrun Construction and Wiegand Construction, both in Fort Wayne.

He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed being in nature.  He liked spending time in his woods and on his pond hunting, fishing and gardening.  He also enjoyed being at Chain O’ Lakes State Park canoeing and camping.  He was a member of the Wolf Lake Gun Club and he was an avid NASCAR fan. 

Survivors include: 

Sister; Connie Fullerton of Auburn.

Sister; Becky Beckman of Fort Wayne.

Nieces and nephews; Tug Beckman, Chris Smith, Brad Smith and Melissa Byers.

Preceded in death by his parents and sister; Jackie Karn.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1801 Main Street in Auburn.

A gathering of friends will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church.

The family asks that instead of flowers and plants memorials may be directed to Heart to Heart Hospice, 7221 Engle Road, Suite 100, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46804 and the DeKalb County Humane Society, 5221 US 6, Butler, Indiana 46721.
