Dorothy Couey Obituary

Dorothy Mae Couey, age 97 of Auburn, Indiana passed away June 16, 2018 in Bloomington, Indiana. Although she celebrated her birthday on May 11, she was recorded as being born on May 13, 1921 in West Lebanon, Warren County, Indiana to William A. and Helen M. (VanNatter) Reynolds. She was the wife of Pierre Francis O’Hare who died in 1950 and the wife of John E. Couey who died in 2015. She was a graduate of West Lebanon High School, Purdue University (BS, MS) and St. Francis College (M.Ed.). She was a teacher at Toledo, Ohio, Boswell, Noblesville, and Hamilton, Indiana. She retired from teaching at DeKalb High School in Waterloo, Indiana in 1982 as the first woman high school guidance counselor. She was an active member of Cedar Lake Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for years. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club, the Auburn Garden Club, Charm and Chatter Home Demonstration Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. During WWII she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. In 1956 she survived the horrific crash of the B&O National Limited in West Virginia. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who took pride in the accomplishments of her extended family. She enjoyed her travel to several parts of the world including her trip to the Holy Lands. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, one brother, Robert E. Reynolds and one infant sister, Wilma I. Reynolds. She is survived by her son, Pierre Francis O’Hare II, (Kathleen), Gahanna, Ohio; granddaughter Molly Stassfurth (Damian) New Providence, New Jersey; great grandsons, Davis and Grey Stassfurth. She is also survived by her second husband’s children whom she loved dearly, daughter Linda Lee Bader, Dunedin, Florida; grandson Andrew Parker (Jessica) Marietta, Georgia; great grandchildren, Andrew, Jr., Aiden, Samantha and Alexander Parker, granddaughter Lindsey Naylor (Isaiah), Dunedin, Florida; great grandchildren, Lilly, Riley and Zoey Naylor, son Donald Dale Couey (Linda), Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandson Michael Couey (Stephanie) Leo, Indiana; great grandchildren, Hayden, Hunter and Sophia Couey; granddaughter Rebecca Bortner (Mitchell) Fort Wayne, Indiana; great grandchildren, Jack and Addy Hollenbeck and Alexandria and Kelsey Bortner,daughter Sandra Sue Clark (Steven), Bloomfield, Indiana; granddaughter Sarah Rizza, Reno, Nevada; great grandchildren, Luke and Sebastian Rizza, granddaughter Tasha Hudson, (Braden), Bloomfield, Indiana; great granddaughter Taylor Johnson, and grandson Scott Clark, Boulder, Colorado. Her niece and nephews were very special to her and she is survived by, nieces Cheryl Jackson and Sara Shrum; nephews Timothy, William and Robert Reynolds. Family will receive friends on Friday, June 22, from 4 pm to 7 pm at FELLER AND CLARK FUNERAL HOME, 1860 Center St., Auburn, IN 46706. Services will be held on June 23, 2018 at 10 am at the Auburn Church of Christ, 208 W. 18th St., Auburn, IN 46706. Following the services, interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn, Indiana.
