ST. JOE — Edwin “Ed” Washler, 77, of St. Joe died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne.

Ed was born Oct. 25, 1940, on the family farm on C.R. 56A in St. Joe to the late Donald and Mary (Hablawetz) Washler.

Mr. Washler was a life-time DeKalb County farmer. He also worked as an agriculture teacher at DeKalb High School and Wawasee High School and was an administrator at Northwest Technical College and Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne.

Ed was a member of Coburn Corners Church of Christ in St. Joe.

He served on the school board for 20 years for the DeKalb Eastern School District. He also was a passionate volunteer at Jehovah’s Pantry at Coburn Corners Church of Christ and Maumee Valley Tractor Club. He was a FFA sponsor at DeKalb High School, started the Young Farmers Chapter in DeKalb County and was a 4-H parent.

He married Suzanne H. Link on July 27, 1968 in the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne, and she passed away December 27, 2006.

Ed married Carolyn Sickmiller on April 13, 2013, in Leo, and she survives in St. Joe.

Also surviving are four children and their spouses, Christopher and Becky Washler of Pensacola, Florida, Zachary and Erin Washler of Harlan, Bethany Kimmel of Jeffersonville, and Abigail and Adam Roemke of Harlan; step-son and his wife, Greg and Jen Sickmiller of Leo; step-daughter, Ann Renfrow of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren, Kurtis Todd Kimmel, Konnor Kimmel, Emily Washler, Sarah Washler, Eli Washler, Noah Roemke, Hannah Roemke, Jonah Roemke, Grace Sickmiller, Ross Sickmiller and Dawn Renfrow; a great granddaughter, Anna Renfrow; and five siblings, Luella Washler of Fort Wayne, Phil Washler of Newville, Marilyn Richey of Defiance, Ohio, Ruth Stevens of Marion and Stan Washler of Auburn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Coburn Corners Church of Christ, 6813 C.R. 64, St. Joe, with calling from 1–2 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Lynn Hart will be officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in St. Joe.

Visitation also will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn.

Memorials are to the Eastside Area Community Foundation for the scholarship program or Jehovah’s Pantry through Coburn Corners Church of Christ.
