APEX, N.C. — Elizabeth Jayne (Jenkins) Hefty of Apex, N.C., passed away peacefully at the Transitions Life Care in Raleigh, N.C., on September 12, 2017. Elizabeth was 92 years of age and had lived in Apex with her daughter, Barbara, since 2009.

She was born on April 22, 1925, in Garrett, Indiana, to Fred and Lula Jenkins. She had two brothers, John and Paul Jenkins, and two sisters, Bernadette Jenkins, and Miriam Kleist, who all predeceased her.

She married Derril L Hefty on April 6, 1946, in Garrett and he predeceased her in 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara J Barhydt, son-in-law Bruce Barhydt of Apex, N.C. She is also survived by a son, James E. Hefty, and daughter-in-law Gigi Hefty, of Sugar Mountain, N.C. A son, Gary L. Hefty, predeceased her in 2009 and he is survived by his wife, Christina Hefty of Auburn, Indiana.

Elizabeth also leaves seven grandchildren: Todd A. and wife Wendy Barhydt of Boynton Beach Florida; Cheryl K. and husband Rob Peck of Cary, N.C.; Tyler S. and wife Julie Barhydt of Monument, Colorado; Pat and wife Christine Hefty of Auburn, Indiana; Ben Hefty of Auburn, Indiana; Lauren and husband Matt Hennessey of Woodbridge, Virginia; and Chris Hefty of Sugar Mountain, N.C.

She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Abigail and Audrey Barhydt of Monument, Colorado; Mason and Connor Peck of Cary, N.C.; and Chris Tieman of Auburn, Indiana.

Elizabeth worked as a book keeper for the Auburn Dairy and also at Glen Oaks Nursing Home, also in Auburn. For many years after Derril retired she worked with him mowing and trimming more than 20 lawns in Auburn and the surrounding communities. She loved to knit, do cross stitch, bake, especially chocolate chip cookies and she really liked playing Uno with the grandkids.

Prior to moving to Apex, N.C., to live with her daughter, Elizabeth was a member of the Betsyettes Home Demonstration Club and the Auburn Alliance Church.

Calling at Feller and Clark, 1860 Center St, Auburn, Indiana will be Saturday, September 23, 2017. Visitation at 10 a.m. and a service at 11 a.m. with internment following at Woodlawn Cemetery following the service.
