AUBURN — Evelyn A. Simanton, 86, of Auburn, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Orchard Pointe Skilled Nursing in Kendallville.

She was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Garrett to the late Fred and Gertrude (Neible) Smith. Evelyn was a 1948 graduate of Garrett High School.

She married Richard G. Simanton on March 18, 1950, and he survives.

Evelyn worked as a clerk for Shooks in Auburn and was a receptionist for Dr. William and Dr. C.B. Hathaway, retiring in 1992.

Evelyn loved to garden and enjoyed the time spent with family and friends at Westler Lake. She also looked forward to spending the winters in South Padre Island alongside her husband, Richard.

She was a member of the South Milford Church of Christ.

Surviving are her daughter, Tedra Hemingway of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law Eric and Sue Simanton of LaGrange; three grandchildren, Adrianne (Chris Robison) Pontius of Fort Wayne, Alex Hemingway of Columbus, Indiana, and James Simanton of LaGrange; great-granddaughter Jaelyn Pontius of Fort Wayne; brother and sister-in-law Pete and Ann Smith of Lady Lake, Florida; sisters-in-law Jo Simanton of Florida and Julia (Bill) Culbertson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Max (Linda) Simanton of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Ted Hemingway; siblings Geraldine Palmer, Orphelia (Floyd) Link, Paul (Mary Jo) Smith, Mildred (Earl) DePew and Pat (Ed) Kennedy; and two brothers-in-law; Gene Simanton and Bob Simanton.

A memorial service will take place 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 9, at 12:30 p.m. at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with Pastor Brian Walter officiating. Burial will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn at a later date.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
