George “Tom” Thomas Widmer, age 68, of Fort Wayne passed away on July 18, 2018 at Parkview Regional Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Fort Wayne on October 28, 1949 to George Jacob and Mildred Elizabeth (Striegel) Widmer. He was a 1968 graduate of Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Widmer honorably served his country for 20 years in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer First Class Torpedoman.
He married Kathleen Grannan on January 8, 1971 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She preceded him in death on February 8, 2016.
After his time in the Navy Mr. Widmer spent several years working as a mechanical engineer at both Fort Wayne Plastics and Key Plastics in Hamilton before retiring. After retirement he enjoyed working at Life Care Center in Fort Wayne in maintenance and transportation. Mr. Widmer enjoyed being outdoors in nature, fishing and gardening. Most of all he loved being Papa to his grandkids!

Daughter and son-in-law; Peggy and Daniel Puzzello of Harlan.
Son and daughter-in-law; Michael and Abby Widmer of Fort Wayne.
Five grandchildren; Jayla Puzzello, Erin Puzzello, Michael Puzzello, Mason Widmer and Joslyn Widmer.
Sister; Mary Widmer of Fort Wayne.
Brother and sister-in-law; Richard and Becca Widmer of Fort Wayne.
Sister and brother-in-law; Lori and Mark Bickel of Fort Wayne.
Sister; Martha Widmer of Fort Wayne.
Many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law; Erica Widmer, brother; Henry Jacob Widmer and two sisters and a brother-in-law; Judith and Steve Fetzer and Joan Prezbindowski.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 1:30 to 3:30 PM at the Saint Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Road in Fort Wayne.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 3:30 PM at the Saint Joseph United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne.
Officiating the memorial service will be Pastor Russ Abel of the Saint Joseph United Methodist Church.
