Harry Eugene "Gene" Hammer
November 14, 1928 ~ November 20, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years OldHarry Eugene “Gene” Hammer, 89, of Auburn and formerly of Fort Wayne died Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at DeKalb Health hospital in Auburn.
He was born Nov. 14, 1928, to the late Elmer and Eva Hammer.
He married Delores Sherwood on Feb. 14, 1948, in Waynedale, and she survives in Auburn.
He worked for 42 years at Joslyn/Slater Steel in Fort Wayne, retiring in 1994. He also was a licensed contractor and built and remodeled various homes.
He formerly attended the First Assembly of God Church in Fort Wayne. He also was a member of the Cold War Patriots.
Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen (Steve) Kunnemann of Broomfield, Colorado, Sharon (Gary) Sloffer of Churubusco and Diane (Phil) Marshall of Auburn; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Sharlene Price and Janice Whitthouse.
Calling will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn.
Private burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
