James Roby Obituary

James A. Roby, age 63, of Wabash and formerly of Huntington passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born on February 25, 1956 in Bellefontaine, Ohio to Norman and Florence "Martha" (Thomas) Roby.

Jim was a mold repair technician and mold designer with Continental Structural Plastics in Huntington, Indiana for over 30 years.

Jim comes from a racing family all started by his dad.  He raced with his brothers Calvin and John and nephews.  Jim raced for many years at the Bryan Motor Speedway where he got every bump, bruise, scrape and break.  It’s a Roby requirement.  Jim was an American muscle car enthusiast, he had many but had a special love for the Cutlass.  Jim also loved his Harley and his many trips to visit family and to meet other bikers, like the Ride for a Cure 2019.

He loved his children and grandchildren very much, mostly because they all wound up just like him.

Survivors include:

Son; Christopher Yockum of Fort Wayne, Indiana whom like his old man can fix a car with his eyes closed.

Son; Dustin Roby of Cape Coral, Florida, who like his old man is a very competitive and aggressive Roby.

Daughter; Stephanie Roby of Hamilton, Indiana, who is surly the mouth of the operation.  Her old man raised her as mouthy as they come.

Son; Michael Roby of Huntington, Indiana.  If you knew Jim at all you knew his soft, giving and very love side.  This “Jim twin” is a peacekeeper for all.

21 truly loved grandchildren; Christopher Yockum Jr., Holli Yockum, Mathew Yockum, Leland Yockum, Nathan Yockum, Logan Roby, Bradynn Roby, Javier Madera, Dustin Roby Jr., Liam Roby, Haley Roby, Hannah Roby, Ayden Conkle, Korbyn Conkle, Chloe Wallen, Zeal Chaffins, Brady Roby, Ashlynn Hicks, Jayla Hicks and Connor Hicks.

1 great grandchild; Asher Gipple.

Jim would never leave out his step-children and their spouses.  They include; John and Sara Wilson, Justin and Sarah Hicks and Eric and Tracy Wilson.

Jim also loved his siblings to the moon and back and they include; Saundra and Jim Reid, Edna and John Matthews, Calvin and Barbara Roby, John Roby and Tammy and Chesney Van Dyke.

Jim’s best friend in the world was his grandson, Logan Roby.  They loved to go to the go-cart track and build go-carts, why buy them when you are skilled.

He was preceded in death by his parents, many siblings, cousins and a special nephew, Jessie James Roby.
