John F. DePaolo, age 75, of Garrett passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Fort Wayne.

He was born on July 27, 1943 in Garrett to Frank DePaolo and Virginia (Muzzillo) DePaolo.  He graduated from Garrett High School in 1961.

John honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966.

He married Jennie L. Kelham on November 14, 1964.  She resides in Garrett.

John owned and operated DePaolo Trucking in Garrett for 40 years retiring in 2006.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garrett and the Garrett American Legion Post 178.  John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors Include:

His wife; Jennie DePaolo of Garrett.

Son and daughter-in-law; Christopher and Rachel DePaolo of New Port Richey, Florida.

Daughter and son-in-law; Gina and Kirby Shafer of Garrett.

5 grandchildren; Marah Shafer of Fort Wayne, Jalen Shafer of Garrett, Lincoln Shafer of Garrett, Kade Shafer of Garrett and Kaleb Kemp (Jeanne) of Holiday, Florida.

One great granddaughter; Kennadi Kemp.

Sister; Patricia Stoody of Fort Wayne.

Sister and brother-in-law; Mary Rose and David Kimmel of Garrett.

Brother and sister-in-law; Ralph and Carolyn DePaolo of Garrett.

Brother-in-law and sister-in-law; William and Sue Kelham of Garrett.

Sister-in-law; Bonnie Kelham of Auburn.

Several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister; Rosemary DePaolo.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn.  Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 300 West Houston Street in Garrett.

Officiating the funeral service will be Father Jim Shafer of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Military honors will be provided by the active members of the United States Air Force and members of the Garrett American Legion Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to the Garrett Fire Department, 200 North Cowen Street, Garrett, Indiana 46738 or the Kaleb Kelham Trust Fund.
