Lukas Brian Rieke, 25, of New Orleans and formerly of Garrett, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, in New Orleans.

Lukas was born on May 6, 1992, in Auburn, Indiana, to Staci Dobson and Brian Rieke. He was also loved by his stepfather, Charlie Dobson, and his stepmother, Sue Rieke.

Lukas attended Garrett High School. After graduation he attended diving school in Charleston, South Carolina, to become a commercial diver. For the four years prior to his passing, Lukas had been living in New Orleans and working for Blackwater Diving.

Luke was fun-loving and never turned down a challenge. He was adventurous and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed diving, sailing, hunting, fishing, watching movies and spending time with his friends and family.

Lukas is survived by his forever love, Mariah Hantz; grandparents Roger and Suzanne Stafford and Layden Rieke; brothers Bennett Rieke, Isiah Dobson, Matt Kostielney and Nate Kostielney; and sisters Pyper Dobson and Lashae Dobson.

Lukas is also survived by aunts and uncles Ryan and Teresa Stafford, Scott and Laura Stafford, Steve and Tammy Rieke, Lara Habig and Aaron and Lisa Rose; and cousins Hayden Stafford, Finn Stafford, Anna Stafford, Ashley Stafford, MaKayla Rieke, Kaitlyn Rieke, Carman Rieke, Daniel Habig, Tyler Habig, Kylie Rose and Kaci Rose. Lukas also left behind his New Orleans family, lead by Bobby Danner.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Suzi Rieke; and great-grandparents, Glenn and Thelma Rieke and Dorathy Davis Shafer.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service. The Rev. Herbert Schumm will be officiating. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.

Visitation also will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Lukas Brian Rieke Scholarship Fund in care of the Community Foundation of DeKalb County.
