Philemon “Wahoo” A. Chavis, age 77, of Butler passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.
He was born on August 13, 1941 in Greensboro, North Carolina to Emmanuel and Mabel (Tyner) Chavis.
Mr. Chavis worked for BF Goodrich in Woodburn for 42 years retiring in 2008. He also farmed in Butler for many years. He was known for being a hard worker.

Daughter; Kimberly Chavis of Lincoln Park, Michigan.
Son; Philemon Chavis Jr. of Attica, New York.
Son and daughter-in-law; Daniel and Mary Chavis of Diamond Lake, Indiana.
Son and daughter-in-law; Matthew and Carrie Chavis of Waterloo.
Son and daughter-in-law; Joseph and Tatiana Chavis of Lexington, Kentucky.
Eleven grandchildren; Malachi Chavis, Shianne Chavis, Samantha Chavis, Derek Chavis, Kristen and Darrian Krause, Ashley Chavis, Abigail Chavis, Ellianna Chavis, Levi Chavis, Nadia Chavis and Aiden Chavis.
Four great grandchildren; Kai, Jhin, Owen and Atticus.
Sister; Deborah Sanchez of Phoenix, Arizona.
Sister and brother-in-law; Gloria and Tony Mroz of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Brother and sister-in-law; David and Genie Chavis of Markle, Indiana.
Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street in Waterloo.
Memorial donations may be directed to Chavis family to help with final expenses.
