Barbara A. Penland, 87 of Garrett, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at home with her family by her side.
She was born on December 19, 1937 in Fort Wayne to Russell and Zenus (Reffner) Gillingham.
Barb worked as a waitress for many years at the L and K restaurant in Auburn and then she retired from the Railroad Inn in Garrett after 25 years of service. She was an avid card player and enjoyed growing and taking care of her flowers each year and watching sports on TV. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and attending the activities of her grandchildren.
Survivors include:
Daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Jerry Singleton of Auburn.
Daughter, Kim Penland (René DePew) of Leo.
Daughter, Gay Penland of Fort Wayne.
Four grandchildren, Justin and Samantha Penland, Natalie Singleton-Treharn and Jordan Treharn, Kelly Singleton (Logan Treaster) and Matthew Singleton (Shannon Williams).
Two great grandchildren, Lily Penland and Evan Penland.
Many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Pat Penland; five brothers, Dale, Chuck, Raymond, Dick and Mike and seven sisters, Velma, Phyllis, Mary Jane, Rose Marie, Bev, Billie and Wilma.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn.
A private family graveside service will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
Memorial donations may be given in memory of Barb to the DeKalb Humane Society, PO Box 806, Auburn, Indiana 46706.
