FORT WAYNE — Barry Joseph Bartlett, 66, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday morning, Dec. 24, 2018, at Parkview Hospital Randallia after a brief illness.
Barry was born Oct. 6, 1952, in Elkhart,, the son of William and Louise Bartlett. He married Bunnie (Brown) Roark on June 28, 2015, in South Bend.
He is survived by his spouse, Bunnie Bartlett of Fort Wayne. He is also survived by his siblings Denise (Ron) O’Bryant of Warsaw, Brenda (John) Emerson of Elkhart, Daryl Bartlett of Elkhart and Myra (Doug) Cors of Elkhart; stepchildren Travis Roark of Fort Wayne and Tamara (Curt) Max of Brighton, Colorado; five grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Pam (Waelbrock) Bartlett.
Barry had recently retired from the South Bend airport as an agent for the TSA. He thoroughly enjoyed his job while making it an upbeat time for travelers by telling jokes as they waited in line. He also enjoyed fishing, geocaching and spending time with his family. He was a licensed amateur radio operator. (W9OKD)
Barry served in the United States Army as a Specialist 4 in light weapons infantry. He was drafted on May 4, 1972, and served through May 1, 1975.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at the Adamsville Road Church of God, 51287 C.R. 7, Elkhart. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
In honor of his wishes, cremation was chosen. A private family committal service will take place at Prairie Street Veteran’s tower in Elkhart.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Humane Shelter of DeKalb County or The American Stroke Association.
