Bertie “Marie” King, age 93 of Garrett, peacefully passed to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
She was born on November 16, 1932 in Kieffer, West Virginia to Phillip and Mary (Legg) Walkup.
Marie had a sister, Mary Frances and a brother, James Claude and they were raised in Crawley, West Virginia. When her mother grew ill, Marie took time off high school to care for her family. A few years later, she met Roy Lee King and the couple were married on February 1, 1954. Soon after marrying, they moved to Indiana to find better work and start a family.
She and Roy loved to travel and often included their children in their younger years. In her later years, Marie loved rooting for Mark Martin in NASCAR races and watching Indianapolis Colts football.
Survivors include:
Daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Kevin Fralick of Huntertown.
Daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Dennis Payton of Auburn.
Son, Rich King of Garrett.
Three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Brother and sister-in-law, James and Sally King of Navarre, Florida.
Many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy King and one sister, Mary Frances Hosey.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn.
Funeral services will follow the visitation on Monday at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor James Pettit and Pastor Tom Wilcoxson officiating.
Burial will take place at the Cedar Creek Cemetery southwest of Auburn.
Memorial donations may be given in memory of Marie to Lakewood Park Baptist Church, the Church at Garrett or the American Heart Association.
