Betty Robertson Obituary

Betty Robertson, 87 of Auburn, passed away Saturday, December 28 peacefully of natural causes. She was at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne since Christmas Eve and had both of her children at her bedside at the time of her passing.

Betty was born on May 16, 1937, in Kennett, Missouri to William "Gen" and Cora Lou Bowling.  She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in Michigan in 1955 and married the love of her life, Bill Robertson, on July 2 that same year. The couple shared a long, devoted life together until Bill’s passing on April 26, 2022. Betty and Bill moved to Auburn in 1969, where they built a life centered on family and faith. Since 2020, Betty resided at Betz Nursing Home, entering initially for short-term rehabilitation from a hip-replacement surgery but staying longer due to the disruptions of the COVID pandemic.

Betty is survived by her loving children, Janise Cobbs of Auburn, Indiana, and Lindon Robertson (and his wife Debbie) of Gallatin, Tennessee.  She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren and their spouses: Janelle and Justin Nolan, Matthew and Courtney Cobbs, Benjamin and Ruth Robertson, Luke and Cinthia Robertson, and Hannah and Adam Krulewicz. Her legacy continues with eight great-grandchildren: Elijah, Eve, Elena and Elizabeth Nolan; Henry Cobbs; and Isaac, Dorothy, and Suzy Robertson.

Betty is also survived by her sister Carolyn and husband Bill Reeves of Niles, Michigan, as well as brother-in-law Wayne Scott of Bloomfield, Michigan.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry Bowling and her sister Reba Scott. Additionally, she is survived by in-laws Wandalee Yarbrough, Norma Harmon, James and Louise Robertson, and Rodger Robertson all of Bradford, Arkansas.

A lifelong Christian, Betty along with her husband were active members of the Church of Christ until hearing difficulties made regular attendance impractical.  She was employed periodically, including at the Stern's Dress Shop in Garrett and Nobson's Clothing Store in Fort Wayne, but her greatest joy came from her role as a devoted mother and homemaker.  Throughout her life, Betty was known for her radiant smile, kind heart, and love of giving and receiving hugs.  Her wit and affection brightened the days of many, especially the staff and residents at Betz Nursing Home. Betty’s kindness, love, and hugs will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Private family committal services will be held at a later date.  Betty will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
