Beverly Ann (Corey) Mawe, 85, of Auburn, passed away Monday, December 9, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
She was born June 13, 1939, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, to Charles P. and Dorothy E. (Gibson) Corey.
Beverly was a 1957 graduate of Woodbury High School in Woodbury, New Jersey. She graduated from Glassboro State College (which is now Rowan University) in New Jersey with a bachelor’s degree in Education in 1961.
She married Richard W. Mawe on July 13, 1963, in Woodbury, New Jersey. The couple resided in California until 1964 before moving to the Mawe family farm in Manchester, Iowa. In 1976, the family moved to Auburn. Many summers were spent visiting New Jersey and enjoying time at the shore in Ocean City.
Beverly taught school in New Jersey, California and Iowa before her family’s relocation to Indiana. She obtained her library certification through Indiana University and had acquisitions and reference responsibilities at the Eckhart Public Library for 20 years, retiring in 2013.
Beverly was a member of the Auburn Presbyterian Church, where she also taught Vacation Bible School.
She also was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, joining in Manchester, Iowa, in 1966 and continuing her membership in Auburn.
Beverly was a lifelong reader and loved to share and discuss books. She also enjoyed traveling, keeping up with friends and spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Richard W. Mawe of Auburn; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Marie and David Hughes of Madison, Wisconsin, and Laura Ann Mawe of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and three grandchildren, Ethan William Mawe, Erin Elizabeth Hughes and Catherine Marie Hughes.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with the Rev. David Lawrence officiating.
A private family burial service will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
Visitation will be from 1 – 2 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2025, prior to the service at the funeral home.
