Buddy L. Baird, age 94 of Butler, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Auburn Village in Auburn.
Mr. Baird was born on April 4, 1930 in Waterloo to Clifford and Edna (Sherwood) Baird. He was a 1948 graduate of Waterloo High School where he was a member of the varsity basketball, baseball and track teams. Growing up on farm in DeKalb County his daily chores, among other things, were milking the cows first thing in the morning and again in the evening.
He married Avis (Armstrong) Jennings on August 1, 1966 at the Big Run Church in Butler. She preceded him in death on May 8, 2015.
Over the years, Mr. Baird worked at McCray Refrigeration in Kendallville, Warner Gear in Auburn and Universal Tool in Butler. After his retirement he owned and operated the Baird Small Engine repair shop in Butler.
He was an avid bowler and he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting and playing games on the computer. He also enjoyed going to watch his grandkids and family members participate in sports and other events. In his free time, he would spend a lot of time at the Heimach Center in Auburn playing pool and socializing.
Survivors include:
Son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Terri Baird of Newburgh, Indiana.
Son, David Baird of Bremerton, Washington.
Daughter, Kellie Chambers of Bonita Springs, Florida.
Stepson, David Jennings of Butler.
Stepdaughter and son-in-law, Denise and Paul Grider of Auburn.
Stepdaughter and son-in-law, Diane and Tracy Martin of Garrett.
Nine grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and eight great great granchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Avis Baird; one son, Steve Baird; two sisters, Betty Custer and Roma Baker and two brothers, Charlie Baird and Richard Baird.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street in Waterloo.
A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Fairfield Cemetery north of Corunna.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Mr. Baird to the Heimach Center, 1800 East Seventh Street, Auburn, Indiana 46706.
