Carol L. Brinkman, 74 of Auburn passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn.
Carol was born on August 22, 1950 in Auburn to Calvin and Patricia Daub. Carol was a DeKalb High School graduate. She went on to earn both her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University in Fort Wayne.
She married Thomas J. Brinkman on July 29, 1972 in Auburn. He resides in Auburn.
Carol used her degrees in education and taught both at the elementary and middle school level for 40 years, all of which were with the DeKalb Central School Corporation. She started at McKenney-Harrison Elementary and then taught at East Auburn Elementary before teaching 6th grade math, language arts and social studies at DeKalb Middle School. She was also the cheerleading coach at the middle school for many years.
Carol was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn, where she taught religious education for a time. She was also a member of the Auburn Swim Club, where she had served as the club’s president and the Auburn Garden Club. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and participated in two DeKalb County Garden Walks. Carol loved to travel, she especially enjoyed going on cruises. During their travels, Carol and Tom had visited all 50 states and several different countries.
Most important to Carol was her family, she loved spending time with them and she especially like to attend her children’s events and more recently her grandkid’s events.
Survivors include:
Daughter and son-in-law, Tamera J. and Erik Weber of Auburn.
Daughter and son-in-law, Jillian and Dan Scharlach of Angola.
Son and daughter-in-law, Zachary T. and Carli Brinkman of Manhattan, New York.
Eight grandchildren, William Weber, Evie Weber, Maggie Weber, Kate Weber, Grace Scharlach, Addy Scharlach, Lillian Brinkman and Harper Brinkman.
Brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Rita Daub of Corunna.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
Private gathering and services will be held for immediate family and other relatives on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with a service at 2:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home in Auburn.
Memorials donations may be given in memory of Carol to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601 and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 500 East Seventh Street, Auburn, Indiana 46706.
