Charles Grobis Obituary

Charles Leo Grobis, 90, of Butler, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at Auburn Village in Auburn, Indiana.

He was born on June 11, 1933, in Avilla, Indiana, to John E. and Mildred May (Kenton) Grobis.

Charles served in the Army National Guard.

He married Roberta Marie Mezydlo, on Jan. 12, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garrett, Indiana, and she passed away on April 29, 1968.

A few years later, he married Mildred Rebecca “Becky” (Inlow) Arrants, on May 9, 1970, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Hicksville, Ohio, and she passed away on Nov. 19, 2013.

Charles was a maintenance foreman for Rieke Corporation for 28 years, retiring in 1996. He also was on the Sheriff’s Mounted Posse in Auburn.

Charles enjoyed watching rodeos, football and basketball on TV. He also enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, Willie Nelson and his favorite place to eat was Coney Island in Fort Wayne.

Surviving are two children and their spouses, Jeffery and Cheryl Grobis, of Waterloo and Sally and Randy Bercaw, of Butler; two stepchildren and their spouses, David and Terry Arrants, of Hamilton and Jane and David Baker, of Butler; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Roberta Grobis; his second wife, M. Rebecca Arrants Grobis; two brothers, John Thomas Grobis and Kenneth Edward 
“Poke” Grobis; and two sisters, Deloris May (Grobis) Osbun and Helen Joan (Grobis) Osbun.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with Father Levi Nkwocha officiating.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Avilla.

Visitation will be from held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers include, Drew Smith, Shania Smith, Dane Baker, Chad Minnix, Greg Bercaw and Kip Emenhiser.
