Cora Lee (Hammond) Silowsky

Cora Lee Silowsky, 100 of Angola passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola.   

Mrs. Silowsky was born on January 12, 1924 in Jackson, Mississippi to Willie and Helen (Holyfield) Hammond.  She was the daughter of a share cropper.  Cora graduated from Bastrop High School in Louisiana.  

After high school she moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she married John Silowsky in 1945.  He preceded her in death in September of 1989.   

Cora loved to knit and crochet and she was quite accomplished, sending her creations all over the United States and to England.  She taught 100’s of kids to knit and crochet from the stoop of her Boston home.  She also had a strong Christian faith and she was very active in her Southern Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a youth leader and served as a Deaconess. 

Survivors include: 

Son and daughter-in-law, John P. and Shelia Silowsky of Hamilton.

Grandson and his husband, John E. Silowsky and Chuck Blank of San Francisco, California.

Granddaughter, Tammy Silowsky of Fort Wayne.

Great grandson, Alex Silowky and his girlfriend, Caden of Chicago.

Great great granddaughter; Victoria Oxley of Fort Wayne.

Many loving nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, John Silowsky; son, Michael Silowsky, four brothers and three sisters, including her twin sister, Georgia B.

A memorial service will be held a later date.
