Donald A. Lee, 101, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024.
He was born on June 17, 1923, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to John A. and Myrtle J. (Harden) Lee.
Don was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as Corporal in World War II. During his time in the Army, he was part of the D-Day invasion and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. For the sacrifice to his county, he received five Battle Stars for his service.
Don married Lucille J. Grogg on Oct. 18, 1943, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Auburn, and she passed away on March 15, 2021.
He was a lifetime DeKalb County farmer. He also worked in maintenance for the Rieke Corporation for 12 years, retiring in 1985.
Don was a member of Norris Chapel Church in rural Auburn.
He was a lifetime member of the Waterloo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6572, American Legion Post 97 of Auburn, Disabled America Veterans and was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 566 in Auburn.
Don participated in the Library of Congress Veteran History Project in Washington D.C.
Don also was an advocate for blood drives through the Red Cross and over his time donating blood, he donated over 17 ½ gallons of blood.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph “Joe” and Cindy Lee, of Auburn; daughter, Joy A. Hoke, of Auburn; four grandchildren, Ben (Deanna) Pomeroy, Joshua (Jennifer) Lee, Marci (Tim) Schmucker and Jami (Jeff) Jarrett; 12 great-grandchildren, Lucas Pomeroy, Tylar Pomeroy, Tanner Pomeroy, Jada Lee, Jackson Lee, Harper Lee, Lauren Lee, Michael (Emilie) Gustin Jr., Madison Gustin, Mallory (Braeden) McIntire, Jenna Jarrett and Carly Jarrett; and a great-great-granddaughter, Marlowe Gustin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; seven brothers, George Lee, Walter Lee, John Lee, Ralph Lee, Lawrence Lee, Gene Lee and Robert Lee; and six sisters, Meda Brons, Marie Palmer, Thelma Funk, Thresa Smith, Emma Lee and Carol Panyard.
Services will be held at noon on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with Gail Norton officiating.
Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, with Military Honors being conducted by the United States Army, American Legion Post 97 and the American Legion Post 178 of Garrett.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon, on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, prior to the service at the funeral home.
