Donald E. Smith

Donald E. Smith, age 97 of Waterloo, passed away at his home on October 30, 2024.

Mr. Smith was born on September 6, 1927 in Waterloo to Clair and Olive Mae (Widdicombe) Smith.  He was a graduate of Waterloo High School. 

He married M. Lorraine Bushong on May 17, 1951 in Garrett.  She resides in Waterloo.

Mr. Smith was a lifetime DeKalb County farmer.  He worked alongside his father growing up and he and Lorraine continued that hard work ethic on the family farm.  Don loved his family, he was especially proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and attending their events.

Survivors include:

His wife of 73 years, Lorraine Smith of Waterloo.

Daughter, Pam Wishmeyer of Indianapolis.

Daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Rick Roark of Waterloo.

Daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Chris Kappes of Libertyville, Illinois.

Son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Rhonda Smith of Waterloo.

12 grandchildren and their spouses; Shayla and Chris Jacobs, Dustin and Madde Wishmeyer, Kyle Roark, Sabrina and Jeff Hermansen, Kayla and Garrett Mitchell, Derek and Allie Kappes, Kadre and Larry  Pershing, Jason Kappes, Jill and TJ Fletcher, Myles and Abbie Smith, Spenser and Leslee Smith and Dylan Smith.

18 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Derwood and Jerry Smith and son-in-law; Gary Wishmeyer.

Private family services will be held at a later date. 

Burial will take place at the Waterloo Cemetery.
