Dorothy Mae Hefty, age 99 of Auburn, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Garrett.
Dorothy was born on December 24, 1923 in Auburn to George Frank and Ethel (Girardot) Cattell. She went to North Keyser Township School for her first eight grades. In 1941 she graduated from Garrett High School. After graduation Dorothy was employed for nine years by Husselman and Husselman Law offices and DeKalb Abstract and Title Company.
During WWII, she married Raymond L. “Hoover” Hefty on November 22, 1943 in Auburn while he was home on furlough. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2017. During the war, she wrote him a letter every day for the three years that he was serving in the Pacific Islands and he did the same whenever possible. In 1946, the couple started their lives together. She loved family gatherings at home and at the Snow Lake cottage. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. She also enjoyed many trips to Michigan to hunt mushrooms and to go snowmobiling. Dorothy was a former member of the Auburn Presbyterian Church and the “Bestyette” Home Economics Club. She enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and she was an avid euchre player.

Daughter and son-in-law; Joyce and Dr. Jack Covell of Auburn.
Son and daughter-in-law; Thomas and Frankie Hefty of Auburn.
Six grandchildren; Morgan and Becky Hefty, Myles and Jackie Hefty, James G. and Kim Hefty, Matthew and Chris Franks, Hannah and Luke Feller and Heather and Josh Miller.
Ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Sister-in-law; Veronica Cattell of Garrett.
Many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, one son; James L. Hefty who passed away on November 29, 2011 and two brothers and a sister-in-law; Max and Kate Cattell and Joseph Cattell.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn.
Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service on Friday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
