Dorothy A. Summers, 88, of Ashley, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Sacred Heart Nursing Home in Avilla.
She was born on February 24, 1938, in Hindman, Kentucky, to John "Fox" and Freda (Butcher) Kilgore.
Dorothy married Ralph L. Summers on December 30, 1955, in Weston, West Virginia. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2019.
She was a homemaker and took great pride in raising her family. She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake. After her family was grown, she worked for Ashley Family Chiropractic and managed the Ashley/Hudson Manor for several years.
Dorothy was a member of the Auburn Church of the Nazarene. She also taught and hosted the Good News Club in her home for many years.
She is survived by her three children, Bob and Jane Summers of Berne, Indiana, Charlie and Lynda Summers of Auburn and Sammye Simmons of Story Lake, Hudson; six grandchildren and their spouses, Chad Summers, Suzi and David Wolfe, Sarah and Jorge Tosado, Brittany and Nick Barger, Meghan and Travis Burns, and Tasha Simmons (Jamie Hoffelder); eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Rofi, Kellen, Emerson, Quinn, Layton, Kenzie and Layne; her siblings, Johnny and Mary Kay Kilgore of Fort Wayne, Chad and Delores Kilgore of Auburn, Madeline Chaffins of Garrett, Gwen Kilgore of Hindman, Kentucky, and Shelia and Richard Bush of Sparta, Tennessee; and her sister-in-law, Shelva Kilgore of Burlington, Kentucky and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Summers; one son, Gregory Summers; one brother, George Kilgore; and her two sisters, Sammye Jackson and Marlene Bentley.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn.
Funeral services will be held following the visitation on Friday at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Dilley officiating.
Burial will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
