Dwight L. Savage, 65, of Hudson, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Born on March 15, 1960, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Dwight was the son of Dallas and Garnett (Conner) Savage. Dwight grew up in northeast Indiana, but also lived in Missouri and Illinois for a short time. In 1972 his family moved to Auburn, Indiana to help establish the Auburn Church of Christ. He graduated from DeKalb High School in 1978.
Dwight attended Central Christian College in Moberly, Missouri where he met his wife, Martha. The two married on May 31, 1980 and their marriage lasted nearly 45 years. Martha survives and resides in Hudson.
Dwight spent the majority of his career in residential and commercial construction. He worked for many companies including Broadview Lumber, Big C Lumber, Metal Technologies Inc., JICI Construction, and finally Schust Engineering. Dwight was a natural leader, and was often referred to as “Boss Man”.
Even though he loved his work, he loved ministry more. He spent 26 years serving at the First Church of Christ in Garrett, IN as an elder, teacher, and worship leader. Dwight was currently a member of the Stroh Church of Christ. He served as a board member and board president of Trine Christian Campus House for the past 21 years. He participated in many missions projects and trips, being the hands and feet of Jesus. His commitment and service to the Lord was not lost on his family and those who knew him. He was an example, mentor, and spiritual leader to many.
When he was diagnosed with cancer in 2023, he held to his faith and powered through, continuing to work and travel for 15 months until his body weakened and it was time to rest. He lived with an eternal perspective, holding loosely to this side of life, knowing his Savior was preparing a place for him. He delighted in the Lord and was given the desires of his heart having been richly blessed in his life, work and ministry.
Survivors include:
His mother, Garnett Savage of Garrett.
His wife of nearly 45 years, Martha Savage of Hudson.
Daughter and son-in-law, Chloe and Josh Glenn of Centerburg, Ohio.
Daughter and son-in-law, Olivia and Andy Grimes of Auburn.
