Elaine E. McBride, 83, died at her home in Butler, Indiana, on Monday, Nov. 18, 2024.
Born April 2, 1941, in New Haven, Indiana, she was one of four children, and the only daughter of Thomas Howard and Helen Irene (Haverstock) Nelson.
She graduated from Hamilton High School.
Her legacy and memories are carried on by her son, Mark Johnson, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and his two sons, Mark (Cassondra) Johnson, of Auburn, Indiana, and their two sons, Sam and Max, and Zach Johnson, of Butler, Indiana, and his son, Bryson; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kelly Johnson, of Fountain Hills, Arizona, and their two children, Carter and Mallory; son-in-law, Allan Williams, of Lebanon, Tennessee, along with grandson, Chris (Cameo) Hoffelder, of Auburn Indiana, their three daughters, Madisan (Riley) Bellinger and their two children, Jace and Sutton, and Mckenna and Allison; granddaughter, Abby Hoffelder, of Edgerton, Ohio, and her two sons, Kellen and Kyler; aunt, Waneta Nelson and her son, Steve Nelson, of Auburn, Indiana; and many loving extended family members and friends who will miss Elaine dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Linda (Hoffelder) Williams; her brother, Jimmie Nelson; her second husband, Richard (Mick) McBride; and her first husband, Jack Johnson.
Elaine was a caretaker to both her parents, Jimmie and Mick prior to their passing, and by all accounts had a heart of gold.
She lived in Waterloo for nearly 20 years, where she raised three kids as a single mom. While money was tight, she always put her family first. She was so proud of the deck that she built in the backyard that led up to her pool. She then lived in Butler for nearly 30 years in the house that was built by her great-grandfather.
Elaine enjoyed the outdoors, filling her bird feeders and watching them from her kitchen window and mowing the lawn each year at Rude Cemetery off C.R. 24 in Butler.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, IN 46793.
Elaine will be laid to rest next to her parents and brother at Butler Cemetery following the service.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., on Friday, Dec 6, 2024, prior to the service at the funeral home.
